Solictors
Solicitors are people who have been trained in the law and can provide advice on a whole range of personal and business matters. Personal sorts of issues can include court problems, devorce or disputes with neighbours to name but a few.
Commercial sector they can give advice with things like writing up contracts, insurance problems, insolvency and business law.
They can present your case in the civil courts, or assist you if use decide to use an alternative form of dispute resolution such as mediation.
They also provide assistance in the buying and selling of property, help you to write a will or deal with someone’s affairs after they have died.
Advocates
Advocates can be instructed by a solicitor's. They offer a special and independent service, quite separate and distinct from that provided by solicitors. They are allowed to appear in the Court of Session and the High Court.
You cannot approach an advocate yourself. Your Solicitor will do this if he thinks it is appropriate or he or she requires more specialist advice
